LADWP is working to restore safe and reliable drinking water to customers affected by a Do Not Drink notice in the Pacific Palisades in portions of the 90272 and in the LADWP Service Area immediately south of the 90272 zip code that lie north of San Vicente Blvd. LADWP is in close coordination with the State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water (CA-DDW) to methodically and rigorously screen, flush and test our water to begin the process of lifting the Do Not Drink notice. Our goal is to restore and ensure the highest drinking water quality for the communities we serve. LADWP's water quality restoration plan has been approved by CA-DDW and involves multiple steps. We understand the impact this situation has on your daily life, and we want to assure you that our teams are working urgently to ensure your tap water meets the highest safety standards. 

Water Quality Restoration Progress

LADWP’s water quality restoration plan has been approved by CA-DDW and involves multiple steps that are strictly followed until tap water is deemed safe to drink and meets all standards for quality and safety.
Since January 25, LADWP has been flushing pipelines and service connections within the affected areas. These activities must be done in coordination with CA-DDW and may include a defined sequence of flushing, testing and retesting within the nine service zones and once water sample results are cleared by the CA-DDW, LADWP can begin lifting the Do Not Drink notice, in phases for affected residents.

    On Friday, January 10, 2025, a Do Not Drink Notice was issued via multiple channels, including media outlets and direct notifications to customers subscribed to LADWP's automatic notification system. Signage and flyers were distributed throughout the impacted area to ensure public safety.

    As soon as it was safe for utility crews to enter wildfire-impacted areas, our water teams worked around-the-clock to restore system pressure in all nine service zones by January 17, 2025. This involved flushing debris and air from distribution pipes via connected fixtures and shutting off leaking or continuously running connections.

    To ensure the safety of your drinking water, we conducted water quality tests at our treatment plants between January 8-17, 2025. These tests confirmed that the treated water was clear of wildfire-related contaminants.

    We completed an assessment of damaged LADWP water distribution system assets and customer structures on January 17, 2025. In addition, CAL FIRE assessed damage to private structures served by the LADWP system. All damage assessment data available through January 28, 2025, was used to develop the Water Quality Screening Plan, which was approved by CA-DDW.

    To clear the system of sediments and stabilize water quality, we've conducted multiple rounds of pipe and service line flushing in all nine service zones. The first round was completed on January 17, 2025, followed by a second round initiated on January 25, 2025. Additional rounds will continue until all samples have been collected, reviewed, and cleared.

    Upon approval from DDW, LADWP began the Comprehensive Water Quality Testing Plan on January 28, 2025. It may take a few weeks or more to complete. To be conclusive, testing and analysis must follow a sequence between the impacted service zones from upstream to downstream. After flushing of sample locations, service lines must be stagnated for 72 hours before collecting samples.

    Samples are being tested by State-Accredited Drinking Water Quality Laboratories for Benzene and CA Title 22 VOC contaminants. Testing is also being done for bacteriological contaminants. Summarized results will be posted on our website when available.

    All test results will be shared with CA-DDW to ensure compliance with water quality standards. If any contaminants or abnormal results are detected, we may need to repeat Steps 5 through 7 for individual service zones or localized areas. This could add extra weeks to the process.

    Once our testing is complete and all water quality standards are met, the "Do Not Drink Notice" will be lifted. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work towards restoring safe drinking water in our community.

    • Brushing teeth

    • Washing hands for food preparation
